Free Ringtones & Wallpappers

This is a guide to upload your own MP3 ring tones as well as many other files that you would like to put onto your phone without getting charged for them because quite frankly $3.50 for a 30 second or less clip of a song I could buy the whole song on iTunes for $0.99.

I would like to note that you will get charged for web data usage if your plan does not supply it.

I personally am using a Samsung SCH-U740 Dual-flip however many of my friends phones have also worked with this trick. I will list the phones that I personally know works.

----------------------

Ring Tones

First you need to get the music file that you would like to make a ring tone. This should be around 25-30 sec's depending on your preference but some phones will not allow longer files to be used for ring tones. I know that on my phone I can not use anything longer than 15 sec's as a text message notification.

I personally like my files to sound correct and fade in and out. I do that by editing the files with a program called Adobe Audition 3.0 however if you are not privy to this program you can use a simple slicing tool called Audacity the latest version is Audacity 1.3.6 (Beta). (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Once you have the file cut down and edited to the way you would like it to be you will then need to save it to a location, I am a neat freak when it comes to organization so I put mine in a \\Desktop\Phone Uploads\Ringtones\.

This is where the second part of this is to go to http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/ here you will find a section on the page entitled "Upload Images, Sounds, Etc." this is where you are going to link to your file. Put in the "Description" which will show up on your phone as the title of the ring tone. "Filename" is where you link to the MP3 file that you have created earlier. Click "Upload File" and you should be taken to the next page where you will be given a jump code. You will need to keep this jump code number as it will be needed to download the ring tone on your phone.

Now go onto your cell phones web browser and go to the address (http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/jump.php" this may be a long to type so I have added it to my phones favorites for continues use.

You will then be taken to a page with an box in which you put the jump code you were given before. ""It will also give you the resolution of your phone which can come in handy if you would like to make sure your custom background images sized properly later on in this tutorial."" Input the jump code into the box and press the "Get File" button. Your phone will then ask you permission to download a file in which if you were willing to go through all this work you will want to accept.

Once you have done this you are done, the file will be downloaded after a wile and you will be able to set it as your ring tone. There is a list of jump codes that I have already made the MP3's for at the bottom of the page.

----------------------

Wallpapers

If you do not already know the resolution of your cellphone you can either look it up on the net or as I said above it will tell you if you go to the url "http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/jump.php" on your phone. On my phone it says Unknown phone (screen size is 176x220) this means that when I make wallpapers for my phone I want it to be that res so it fits properly.

You can use Adobe Photoshop CS2 or a freebee that works just as well for making these cell phone images and is small is Portable GIMP which can be found at "http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable".

Once you have the program play around editing images the way that you would like them to be you then you should save them as a JPG file. Then follow the same steps as stated above to upload a Ring Tone however with a JPG file instead of a MP3.

Business

I have been working on getting another home business going which inevitably has been sucking up quite a bit of my time, and tiring me out for the remaining time I have left in the day.

If everything goes well the IGN (IcIrIs Gaming Network) should have some steady funding for things such as:

Dedicated Web Server
Dedicated Server Box
Game Server Hosting
New Electronics
Prizes

I would love to be able to give prizes away each month if not more often. I will keep you up to date on this as it progresses.

Game Reviews

I would like to inform you about how I plan on getting games for a non profit site.

I am wanting to keep things free and from me, a real gamer. I will never want to put ads anywhere(however the Google blogs have the ads already embedded in the site).

Once I get the console I will be putting 120 dollars away each month for game rentals from the local store. Each game I will review and post on the site. There will however be game that I would like to purchase and in which case it may be a slower month for game reviews.

Any help, either it would be posting your own reviews or donating to get more reviews would be great.

To post an article send your posting to:
iciris@gmail.com

I will then review the posting and submit.

Grasshopper working with Unreal Engine 3

By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Goichi Suda's next game is turning into a massive collaboration. In August, it was revealed that the designer of No More Heroes had teamed up his Grasshopper Manufacture studio with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and Q Entertainment to make a new action horror game. Electronic Arts also signed on to assist the project through its EA Partners program.

Now there's another partner in the mix, as today EA announced the game would be built using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3. Beyond being notable for the news of another developer signing up to use the engine, the announcement also raises eyebrows because of the game's platforms.

EA initially confirmed the game for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Nintendo's Wii, but Epic does not currently support the Wii. If the Unreal Engine 3 is indeed being used in all versions of the game, it could be the first time the technology appears on Nintendo's console. As of press time, a representative with EA had not returned GameSpot's request for comment.

Unreal Engine 3 has powered a wealth of current-generation titles, from blockbusters like Gears of War to critical casualties like Hour of Victory. It also has been the subject of a lawsuit from Unreal licensee Silicon Knights, which used the engine for Too Human.

[UPDATE]: When asked if the Grasshopper news meant Epic Games had begun supporting Unreal Engine 3 on Wii, company vice president Mark Rein flatly responded, "No, no Wii support in UE3."
----------------------

I am wanting to see what Grasshopper plans to do with this one the only other game that they have come out with that I know of was Killer 7 and it was a fairly ok cell shade game back on the PS2 we rented at a friends house.

The fact that they are not bringing UE3 to Wii is annoying but I guess the price you pay for the console helps decide what extent of engines the game gets. I would have like to see them make the engine work on it to bring more great game FPS's to life on the Wii but it would have to be a very dummied down version of the engine for it to run smoothly on the Wii.

Anyways I will try and keep track of what goes on with this up and coming game.

Skate 2 Updated Hands-On

By Shaun McInnis, GameSpot

One thing the original Skate proved is that good controls and easy controls aren't necessarily one and the same. The whole concept of controlling your body with one thumbstick and your board's flicking motions with the other was something that felt very alien to a lot of players. But once you got it figured out, it became like second nature--a unique and rewarding challenge that opened itself up to a brand new way of playing skateboarding games. Unlike the first game, Skate 2 will find a mixed audience of "flick it" veterans and neophytes alike. Appealing to both of these groups is one of the biggest challenges faced by the team at EA Black Box as it seeks to avoid overwhelming newcomers while giving grizzled veterans the chance to pick up where they left off.

Achieving this task begins, as it so often does, with the introduction to the story. You're immediately told to get on down to Slappy's skatepark where, along the way, you'll encounter narrow alleyways and parking lots littered with obstacles. These obstacles will test your ability to pop big ollies, crouch under gates, and so on. You'll be able to zoom on through if you know what you're doing, but if not, the game will recognize this and hold your hand as it guides you through basic techniques. This should give experienced players the ability to get right down to learning the new moves, such as handplants and bonelesses, while those new to Skate can start small.

Once there, you're given a hint about what's happened in the five years between Skate and Skate 2. Apparently, your character has been in prison (the details of which are still unknown) and is now seeking to rebuild his reputation among his skeptical peers. It's not so much a matter of proving your skills because your mastery on a board has already been evidenced in the first game, but rather, proving your worth as a member of the skating community. In practical terms, this means you won't have to start from scratch--you'll immediately pick up as a well-known skater doing photography and sponsor challenges from the beginning rather than taking part in minor challenges with the locals.

With your skating abilities already well known throughout the city, you'll be given access to most of the exclusive skate spots right from the beginning rather than having to hold out for the biggest and best jumps at the end. But if hitting up the prime real estate isn't your cup of tea, you can also create your own skate spots. We talked about how you can move certain objects, such as picnic tables and rails, in our last preview, but now, we've been told that you can actually share the fruits of your labor in a new mode called Create a Spot. With Create a Spot, you can organize objects in a certain location, save the layout, and then upload that new spot to share it with friends online. A few of the options you're given include defining the boundaries of your spot and setting a point challenge to beat.

Visually, Black Box wants to complement your new abilities with improved bail animations. If you mess up on a grind and you're not going too fast, you'll simply run out of the grind instead of falling to the ground in a limp, lifeless mess. Occasionally, you'll see your skater attempt to brace for impact if he can get his hands out in time. And if you sense a move going awry while airborne, you can simply kick the board away before you land. But if you do wipe out often, you'll notice your skater gradually show more damage over time, such as torn clothing and bruised elbows.

This new ability to kick the board away will become the centerpiece of the new Hall of Meat mode. The first game tracked your damage by popping a skeleton diagram on the screen whenever you'd bite it hard, showing you the various bones you'd bruised, fractured, or broken. This time around, you'll occasionally find yourself invited to take part in a contest to see just how badly you can wreck your body. Typically, you'll fling yourself off a ramp, kick the board away, and then use the right stick to contort your body into any shape--from a cannonball to a torpedo. Damage will be shown with all new factors leading up to your demise, such as airtime, rotation, number of pedestrians hit, and so on. Of course, if all you want out of the game is authenticity--because most skaters actively try to avoid throwing themselves into certain death--Hall of Meat is completely optional.

In order to match its progress in improving the way you play the game, Black Box wants to improve the way you document it. The video editor has been spruced up so that you're given more control over your camera angles. Now, instead of just choosing from five or six different angles that are anchored to your character's movement, you'll have two new camera options. The first is the "follow camera," which is similar to the old system in that it's attached to your character, but now, you can customize the angle of the camera and the level of zoom by moving an invisible camera freely about the world. The other is the "tripod" camera, which allows you to set a fixed camera that remains still even as your skater passes in and out of the frame.

Just as with the original video editor, you'll be able to chop up your videos into different sections then assign unique angles, effects, and playback speeds using time markers. Of course, all of these enhancements would be aided exponentially by a more reliable and intuitive content-sharing hub than the one available for the first game at skate.ea.com. For its part, Black Box has promised that fixing this site is a big focus. Anyone who went through the painful registration and account-linking process when the game first came out will know exactly what we're talking about.

All told, Skate 2 looks like it's going to offer plenty of new material for fans of the original without weighing down those who are unfamiliar with how the game works. EA still remains mum on the release date, sticking to its original "sometime in 2009" announcement. We'll be sure to bring you new details on the game as soon as we get them.

360 Comin Soon?

I have figured out what I want to do if my financial situation is well enough to afford the following items.

Xbox 360 Pro Console 60GB - CDN$ 299.99
Xbox 360 VGA HD Video Cable - CDN$ 40.23

I can then plug the 360 into my monitor and then use a splitter to enable me to use my surround sound system that I have mounted to my roof and walls along with it at the same time as my computer. My monitor is already able to have two DVI ports plugged into it, and I have VGA to DVI adapters laying around the house.

As some people know I am all about setting up the ultimate entertainment center, and thus far I feel that I have a fairly good gaming station setup.

For the moment I have:

1 - 8" Passive Sub
1 - 5.5" Long Throw Sub + Port
2 - Front Right
2 - Front Left
1 - Center
2 - Rear Left
2 - Rear Right

The setup however is with two rears slightly forward and spread to either side of the room, and the other two rears are pointed backwards to reverb off my back wall creating a very immersive sound. I will take pictures of my speakers and locations and post them soon.

Well its 11:30 and everyone is in bed, so this means that it is time for me to be off and getting some gaming in. Have fun everyone and remember; OWN OR BE OWN'd!

Site Plan (First Blog Post)

I am planning on resurrecting the IGN (IcIrIs Gaming Network).

As a plan I am going to cover all games that peaks interests. With that in mind here are a few points a blotted down earlier today.

1 - An Xbox 360 section will be added once I am able to obtain the correct connectors and Xbox that are compatible with my current gaming system. Currently works are in progress to make a deal with Net Worth Computers for this hardware.
2 - I will always explain in detail any problems that arise during my reviews or usage of products as well as the solutions to the problems.
3 - I will attempt to post at least 1 item per week if not many more.
4 - I will be expanding to movies as well as the games. I find movies very entertaining and watch a vast amount of them.
5 - Gaming is one of my biggest passions and as that I will bring you gaming information from a gamers perspective.
6 - As some people know there are the odd games that I take a very large interest in and more often then not learn every aspect about that particular game. These games will be given the IcIrIs' Seal of Approval and I will attempt to give you all the in's and out's of these games.

The site will eventually evolve to include a forum as well, but at the moment I do not have the funding to obtain a dedicated server for the use of the site. I would like to eventually build a community and use the server for games and hosting important files and information for them.

Currently games that are peaking my interest are:

Call of Duty 4 (PC)
Call of Duty 6 (PC)
Guitar Hero 4 (360)
Fallout 3 (PC or 360)
Need for Speed Undercover (PC)
Fable 2 (360)

----------
Movies

As it comes to the movie topic, I rent movies from the store before they come out and thus am able to watch them before most people can see them in their own homes, when I give a movie review I will give it a rating of either Rent, Buy or Don't Bother. This keeps things simple and if you find that you agree with my taste in movies then you can base some of your movie decisions off of mine.

----------
Game Reviews

I will base game reviews and comment on the following categories of the game.

Game-play - How the game feels wile you are playing it.
Graphics - The polished visual shine.
Audio - Does it sound real?
Story-line - Does it peak my interest
Innovation - Does it bring something new to the table that I haven't seen before.

Each category gets either a yes or a no, keeping it simple and giving an explanation for my answer is what I am about, a number tells you nothing, it is all in the explanation about why I either liked or disliked a specific part of the game.

----------
Hardware

I will try and test out as much new hardware as I can, this would be a lot easier if I had a better financial situation at the moment but nothing is perfect. I will give reports about using the products even if they are not my own, if I get a chance to get my hands on something I will tell you about my experience.

----------
Call of Duty 4

I spend most of my gaming time playing this game, if you would like to catch a round with me feel free to add me to X-Fire under the username... you guessed it... IcIrIs.
